Supervisor_Carson_Staff_028.jpgAlameda County Supervisor Keith Carson represents the Fifth District which includes the cities of Albany, Berkeley, Emeryville, Piedmont and large portions of Oakland, namely the West Oakland, North Oakland, Rockridge neighborhoods and portions of the Montclair, Fruitvale, Dimond and San Antonio districts.

With a focus on inclusive and accessible government, Supervisor Carson brings together people who have a wealth of talent and creative resources to address the challenges facing our communities including homelessness and anti-displacement, health care access, transportation, sustainability and re-entry support. He also works to improve business retention and address the need for more living-wage jobs in our communities.

Some of Supervisor Carson’s key accomplishments include:

- Creating AC Impact, a program that provides permanent supportive housing and services to chronically homeless adults in Alameda County. This program couples federally funded permanent housing with guided connections to community-based support services including mental and physical health care, move-in support and legal advocacy.  AC Impact is a Housing First approach that emphasizes permanent housing solutions for participants and also provides guidance on the basics of maintaining a household such as how to be a good tenant/neighbor and how to budget and pay bills on time.

- The Board of Supervisors recognized that buildings consume a large percentage of the world’s energy and construction debris is more than 20% of material in local landfills. To move Alameda County toward a more sustainable future, the Board of Supervisors adopted a Green Building Ordinance that requires that all County municipal projects be built to a minimum U.S. Green Building Council LEED Silver standard and requires recycling of construction and demolition debris.

- Funding of a Community Capacity Fund, setting aside State AB 109 realignment monies, to help community-based organizations develop and increase their capacity to deliver re-enty services through structured training programs and grants.

Supervisor Carson chairs several Alameda County committees and organizations including the East Bay Economic Development Alliance, one of the largest business organizations focused on public/private partnership serving the San Francisco East Bay. He also chairs the Alameda County Budget Work Group Committee and the Alameda County Personnel, Administration and Legislation Committee. Supervisor Carson represents Alameda County on the boards of several additional organizations including the Alameda County Transportation Commission, the Alameda County Waste Management Authority and the Actuarial Committee for the Alameda County Employees Retirement Association’s (Chair).

Supervisor Carson attended the John F. Kennedy School of Law and earned a Master of Public Administration from California State East Bay and a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Business Administration from the University of California, Berkeley.
